INTRODUCTION
We are a lively group of seven, who enjoy reading and have been together now for five years. We are possibly unique in that one member, having moved from Solihull, now joins us via Facetime !
We have a wide range of interests and tastes, but often find the choice of the month is one we would not have read otherwise – the aim of learning together in u3a. Some of us ask the challenging questions about the book - but we all join in the discussions and enjoy the delicious cake and cup of tea at the end of the afternoon, when conversation becomes more general – other books, theatre and television productions and holidays...
Our book choice is made by members of the group and is varied. We did a series on Booker prize winners, have included such classics as Brave New World and Nicholas Nickleby and biographies. We have travelled the globe with our books and learnt so much.
Our recent choices have included Learning to Talk by Hilary Mantel, Sixteen Trees of the Somme by Lars Mytting, The Language of Kindness by Christie Watson, Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie, The Blackwater Lightship by Colm Tobin – and currently, Remarkable Creatures by Tracy Chevalier. Future delights include The Beekeeper of Aleppo by Christy Lefteri and The Silence of the Girls by Pat Barker.
