Trip opportunity with Solihull Widney u3a
Sue Maher and Chris Bodfish, members of Solihull Widney u3a, are organising a day trip and would like to offer places to other local u3a members so that they can fill a coach to keep the cost down for everyone.
The trip will be on 6th July to Speke Hall near Liverpool and to see the Anthony Gormley figures on the beach at Crosby.
Speke Hall is a rare Tudor Manor which is a National Trust property and home to fascinating architectural features. There is a range of treasures from Richard Watts collection of over 200 pieces of ancient carved oak furniture and also early examples of William Morris wallpaper. There is also a priest hole. The courtyard has a stately pair of yew trees established to be 500 years old nicknamed Adam and Eve, one male and one female. These evergreens provide dramatic contrast to the Tudor wattle and daube walls surrounding them. There is also a restaurant and gardens.
At Crosby, there are 100 life size cast iron figures sculpted by Anthony Gormley spread across 3 kilometres of the foreshore and stretched almost 1 kilometre out to sea.
The coach will cost £22.00 per person if 45 people book, plus the cost of entry to Speke Hall for people who are not members of the NT. The coach company are booking up quickly and so I need to know as soon as possible if enough people are interested in coming, so that we can decide whether to go ahead with the coach booking. Please let us know by 4th April if you and any friends would like to come on the trip. If there is not much interest in the visit we can then cancel everything with the coach company. Also, we would be grateful if “buddies” of members not on the internet could let them have details of the trip.
If you and any of your friends wish to come on the trip on 6th July, please email Sue Maher by 4th April, at: susanmaher46@googlemail.com or contact her on her mobile : 07842 877342.
